Garmisch-Classic, Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Three interlinked mountains--Hausberg, Kreuzeck, and Alpspitze--make up the Garmisch-Classic ski resort. The Bavarian Alps locale has a maximum elevation of 2,050 m (6,726 ft), with a vertical drop of 1,350 m (4,429 ft). More than 40 km (25 miles) of runs accommodate skiers of varying skill level. One of the most famous runs here is the 7 km (4.35 mi) long Kandahar trail, used by skiers during the 1936 Winter Olympic Games and annual World Cup events. A number of cafes can be found at the mountains' summits, offering shelter from the elements and views over the slopes.
