After being wiped out in the firebombing of World War II, Neumarkt was partially rebuilt in a socialist Realist style by the German Democratic Republic. After the German reunification, however, the area began to be restored to its prewar Baroque look. Today, the area is characterized by the same gabled houses and ornate facades that stood here during the Renaissance. Enjoy a stroll through the cobblestone square, where you'll find great shopping and dining in the shadow of the ornate Dresden Frauenkirche church.
