Create an itinerary including Institut Mathildenhoehe
Conceived around the turn of the 20th century, Institut Mathildenhoehe was founded as a colony of artists and architects with forward-looking ideas about the role of art and design in modern society. The group included Peter Behrens, Paul Bürck, Hans Christiansen, Ludwig Habich, Patriz Huber, and Joseph Maria Olbrich, all part of the Art Nouveau movement. The houses the artists lived in were constructed as exhibitions of their ideas and also functioned as homes, studios, and meeting places. The area also includes a wedding tower and a Russian Orthodox chapel. The museum contains a vast collection of art spanning the last few hundred years, along with many changing exhibits. • We'd been to the MH about 40 years ago and knew it is important as a design center. But it is definitely worth several hours if design and the history of design are important to you.

  • An important landmark in Darmstadt. Lovely place to visit. Views from the Hochzeitsturm are great. The Russian church, the tree plantation with lovely sculptures and the cafe, all are great.
  • Rude people, only german explanation, only few parts of the audioguide are in english. Is this area listed on world heritage?? By the way, some nice pieces to see. The only interesting spot in Darmstadt Mathildenhöhe
