As one of the three major museums in Cologne, Wallraf-Richartz Museum contains a gallery with fine art representing the medieval period to early 20th century. The museum's collection began to come together in 1824, although it didn't move to its current location until 2001. In that year, it also gained a comprehensive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works on permanent loan from Gérard Corboud. Consider getting a Museum Card, which allows access to this and many other museums in the city. • This is an excellent museum with high quality art and a local focus. So much of the art is from Cologne, so it is almost like getting a local history lesson while enjoying the amazing art. Top notch!

  • Although it is not completely open right now (one floor is under construction when I visited) I still really enjoyed it! The first floor is dedicated to old religious paintings. The second floor was my favourite because it had paintings from the baroque period. I particularly enjoyed reading about how paintings are analysed in order to understand how they were painted as well as if they are real.
  • Amazing. You can see the pictures from 13c to 20c. And you can find the difference between the century. Very interesting. I stayed there for 3hours. And this building was designed by O.M.Ungers. i think the best important element is "STAIR" between museum and foyer. And look at the Grid system on the ceiling and floor. Haha. Very clear.
