At 409.2 m (1,342.5 ft) long, Hohenzollern Bridge serves as a major crossing over the Rhine river. Nearly 1,200 trains cross the river here each day, making it Germany's most heavily used railway bridge. Wander across the Rhine for sweeping views of the rest of the city on both banks. You can't miss the famous Cologne Cathedral. Be sure to look for the many "love locks" adorning the bridge railings. These fairly new padlocks are supposed to bring hopeful couples good luck. The original bridge was destroyed during World War II. The impressive metal structure you see now was built in 1948. Planning Cologne trip won't be overwhelming when you use Inspirock's itinerary maker.

  • My wife and I were waiting to board a boat for a river tour and decided to walk up onto the bridge. I had not read anything about the bridge before and so was surprised by all the locks people have...

  • Iconic railway bridge over the Rhine, destroyed during WW2, and reconstructed. The bridge is famous for the countless number of lovelocks attached to the fence. Just amazing.
  • Beautiful bridge with lovely views of the city along the river. Covered in love locks which is also pretty cool! Popular walking/biking path to get from one side of the river to the other. We stayed on the far side of the river and used this to go into the city each day while we visited
