Create an itinerary including Schloss Johannisburg mit Schlossanlagen
Constructed in the early 1600s overlooking the river Main, Schloss Johannisburg mit Schlossanlagen is made of the red sandstone typical to this area and is one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture in Germany. Heavily shelled during World War II, the castle was subsequently restored and opened to the public in 1964. Take the self-guided tour to see photos of the damage, learn about the castle's history, and visit the various collections housed within. Take a look at the unusual collection of cork models of ancient Roman buildings, including the Coliseum and the gallery of paintings by Bavarian artists, or enjoy a glass of wine by a palace window. The surrounding gardens also provide a nice place to relax after your visit. • The palace is all rebuilt in 1950 after a 80% destruction on the war. An exhibition by Carl May of Roman ruins that he modeled out of cork was a surprise to see. As the palace is a restoration...

  • Lovely palace. We visited the museum too. Some parts of the museum are closed, but whatever can be visited is nice and informative. There was a special exhibition on models made of cork. That was quite nice. You can buy a combination ticket to visit the museum + Pompejanum. The staff at the counter was very helpful and explained everything well.
  • So beautiful, It is great for a day tour, not only visiting this beautiful castle but also walking along the river, enjoying a delicious ice cream or drinking a coffee in a cafe in the heart of the city.
