  • The building was modeled on a typical rich home in the days before the city of Pompeii was covered in lava. To visit this building is just a pleasant surprise in the middle of Germany.

  • Along the Main River in Aschauffenburg, Germany there is a beautiful walking path that leads from the Aschaffenburg Castle to the Pompejanum, an idealized replica of a Roman villa. Built by King...

  • This is a place where you get to feel like you've just arrived to Italy! It is indeed a perfect replica of a Roman villa with all its beauty and decor! I bought a 6 EUR ticket (only cash payments possible) and enjoyed a stroll around the villa admiring the details and colors, so vivid and vibrant! Plenty to see - statues, sculptures, paintings, pottery and other roman artefacts are displayed on both floors. Unfortunately all the information was available in German only. The indoor yard with glass roof and a fountain in the middle is the centerpiece of the villa and is so photogenic and just amazing to be in. The surroundings were beautifully decorated - from a garden of red roses, wisterias, huge agave plants in the pots to other Mediterranean flora such as fig trees and wine. Visited in June 2022. Tips: Don't forget to visit Saint-Germain-Terrasse right behind the villa and of course the majestic Schloss Johannisburg, only a couple minutes away!
  • Awesome place, really. The attention to detail in designing the villa is clearly visible. The inner court room, the dining room and the kitchen were the most interesting, as the other rooms were not so furnished. The small cupboards with static displays with little to no English texts were a bit on the boring side. With a bit of enthusiasm for the place, the era and/or even for the Ludwigs (plain crazy guys!) and interactivity this could be turned into a truly amazing historical attraction. The villa can be reached after a short walk from the street or from Johannisburg.
