The surreal, multicolored observation tower, Weissbierbrauer Kuchlbauer, graces the grounds of Abensberg 's Kuchlbauer Brewery. From the top of the gold-plated observation ball, Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser wanted to treat visitors to panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The organically shaped tower houses a collection of 4,200 Weissbier glasses, along with exhibits on the brewing process and the Bavarian Purity Law. • What a fun brewery. Make sure to take the tour as it gives insight into the unique design of the site. The tower is right out of the mind of Dr. Seuss or Gaudí. A fully functional brewery is...

  • The Kuchlbauer brewery in Abensberg is a hidden gem in the country side of Bavaria. The Kuchlbauer tower, probably the last project of the Austrian architect Friedrich Hundertwasser is not open to...

  • What an awesome place to visit in this town. A must see!
  • Hundertwasser wanted people to live in harmony with nature, each other and their built environment. This gallery lets him down badly. In the shop at the entrance a worker shouted, loudly and repeatedly in German, 'no photos, verbotten...' in the shop? I was shocked, offended by the aggression and complained. Finally, I did buy a ticket. I am 72 years old and disabled, the cashier asked for proof of age: the reduction was 1 euro, yes one! The material is interesting, though repetitive, but there are 'don't touch' wall stickers everywhere in a bright red. They give a free bottle of beer at the end to help recover from the culture shock.
