Sip and smile at Langlois-Chateau where sparkling wines are a specialty. The chateau was procured--and opened as a winery-- in 1912 by Edouard Langlois and his wife Jeanne Chateau. The couple enjoyed quick success with their sparkling wine, but production was interrupted by WWI and the death of Langlois. However, it wasn’t long before the bubbles were popping again at the chateau. Financial success allowed the property to begin an expansion that didn't end until 2009.
You’ll begin your tour at the School of Wine where you’ll learn about the wine-making processl. Then you’ll make a 300 m (984 ft) journey underground to the cellars to learn more about Langlois methods, and taste their famed Crémant de Loire. Walk around the exterior of the chateau to get a view of the vines in those abundant, sloping Loire Valley hills that draw visitors from all over the globe in pursuit of the perfect sparkling beverage. Nice individual tour with a very knowledeable guide. Hands-on experience in the caves. Great opportunity to discuss and ask questions, and have a great tasting. All in all, highly recommended! more »
Had a tour, just the 5 of us, absolutely brilliant Matthew our guide happily speaking English - great tasting experience with no pressure to buy more »
We had a short, week long stay near Saumur and after trying local wines that were available in the Supermarket, we decided to go and visit a wine house/cave. Langlois-Chateau was a fantastic choice, it is a neatly presented, modern venue that somehow still has that personal and homely feel. Our guide to wines was brilliant, he was both informative and humorous and discussed each wine with us, providing fantastic facts, knowledge and understanding. I would heartily recommend this cave for a visit. As a family we left with a variety of wines (over 18 bottles, red, pink and white) and would have happily taken more had we been able to! It's also worth mentioning that you get a slightly cheaper price per bottle if you buy in bulk, with which you can mix and match different wines, not just bulk of one purchase. For fans of red, they also have a sparkling red which was a novelty to try! Great visit, lovely staff, would visit again in a heartbeat!
We stayed just down the road. Wonderful tasting room. Lovely wines especially the cremants. Saumur is a great area to stay. We are about to enjoy a bottle of sparkling red we brought home to Canada. It will bring back great memories of the Loire. This winery is worth the visit. A1.
