Climb up the hill for a beautiful view of the bay from Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, located at the highest natural point in Marseille. This Catholic basilica, showing Roman architectural influences, is the town's most prominent landmark. The church was built by the architect Henri-Jacques Espérandieu on a 149 m (490 ft) limestone outcrop on the south side of the old port. Seek out the great bell and silver statues of religious figures within the basilica. Planning Marseille trip won't be overwhelming when you use Inspirock's itinerary maker.

  • This is a beautiful cathedral, even in comparison to others in Europe, with great views of the area. I think you must go there if you are in Marseille.

  • Pretty cool little place. We walked up from the port, which was quite a walk, but pretty cool to see the city that way. Safe area to walk around in. The view from there was unique and made it a great stop. The boats everywhere in the church was also really unique and interesting. I definitely wouldn’t pay a tour guide if any kind and was glad that admission was free. They charge you to use the restrooms, which was wild to me but maybe that’s normal in this area.
  • Simply stunning! Its the highest point of the city and the view is just amazing. You can see all over the city there - from the sea to the mountains. Be aware that you have to take some stairs, even when you arrive with the sight seeing Bus or similar. Being there you can take an elevator to get up the top floor.
