  • In the valley adjacent the side of the road, is this well-tended cemetery full of Gordon Highlanders mown down, apparently, by a solitary German machine gun.

  • A small but different Cemetery in honour of the Gordon Highlanders, all of who were killed nearby. Well laid out and very worthy of their bravery.

  • Nice little battlefield cemetery, aptly named since most of the men buried here are Gordon Highlanders, all killed on July 1st 1916. Most of the gravestones are in a semi circle around the cross which is a little unusual. Access is a little problematic. The cemetery entrance is about 15 metres from the roadside and maybe half a metre below the level of the road. I would advise parking at Devonshire Cemetery, about 400 metres north on the opposite side of the road, and then walking from there.
  • Immaculately kept (within) superb memorial but access not suitable for family with disabilities. Slippery surface/slope adjacent to the road with no handrails, non-slip slope or steps. Only a muddy uneven path from the roadside to the memorial entrance. Farmers crops surround the memorial which adds to its charm, but on the day of our visit someone had obviously hidden amongst the crops and used the muddy path external to the memorial as a toilet. Toilet paper and faeces less than 10ft from the memorial entrance, a disgusting sight. The cemetery deserves 5-stars, the access is the only main reason to score it less. Also there were no cards left for CWGC comments and boundary hedge was ready for trimming. These comments do not detract from the passion I have for the individual's honoured within this cemetery, but the Commonwealth War Graves Commission have let this place slip by comparison to others. I have family ties to this place as my Great Grandad was a member of the Gordon Highlanders, his best friend is buried here so please don't think I'm being awkward, I just want this cemetery to deserve the same attention and respect as the many many others that CWGC look after so admirably.
