  • Thank you to those who are responsible for keeping this cemetery beautiful as a tribute to those heroes resting eternally here. My grand uncle is buried here and it’s nice to know that he’s honored.....  more

  • So struck by the location and the utter serenity of this desperately sad place, we visited twice over a three day period. The stillness is jarring. I found it to be profoundly moving.

  • Flatiron Copse is not just a beautiful cemetery it's a very moving one. It contains the graves of many of the casualties of the 38th (Welsh) Division's attack on Mametz Wood. , It also includes the graves of three pairs of brothers, each pair laid side by side. In all three cases both brothers died on the same day. The cemetery is in a quiet and tranquil spot about a kilometre from the nearest road. Along with the nearby Red Dragon Memorial, it's a beautiful spot to stop, take a breather and reflect on those terrible days of a hundred years ago. Access is possibly best on foot. Access by car may be difficult in bad weather. If it's dry there is a good quality track to the Welsh Memorial where you can park up and then walk to Flatiron Copse. Be warned though, it's a one lane track about 2km long and you really don't want to meet someone coming the other way.
  • Pearl of a cemetery in the middle of nowhere.
