Porcelain City

Known for its medieval enamels on copper (Limoges enamels), its 19th-century porcelain (Limoges porcelain), and for its oak barrels used for Cognac production, Limoges has a creative flair with historic significance. You can walk the old town area with some half-timbered buildings remaining, and visit the artistically impressive city hall. Some of the must-see sights, include the Crypt of Saint Martial, a 10th century tomb of the bishop who evangelized the city and the 14th-century Chapelle Saint-Aurélien that includes the relics of St. Aurelian, the second bishop of Limoges. You can reach this artistic city by train via the main railway station Gare de Limoges-Bénédictins offering direct connections with Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lyon, and several regional destinations. The A20 motorway connects Limoges with Vierzon and Paris to the north, and Brive-la-Gaillarde and Toulouse to the south.
