Capital of Champagne
Best known for its Champagne production, Épernay is a small town featuring several famous brands, including Moët & Chandon, that have been aged in the miles of tunneled cellars carved from chalk rock beneath the town. The commune in the Marne department of the Champagne-Ardenne region sits on the left bank of the Marne at the extremity of the Cubry valley that crosses it. Touring the vineyards, wine-aging caves, and attending wine tastings is easier with a rental car, but you can get out and walk around Avenue de Champagne, the most famous street in Épernay where you can shop for and learn about leading Champagne brands. Plan your holiday in Epernay and other destinations, from the rural, to the urban, and everything in between, using our France visit planning website.
