One of the oldest gardens in Normandy, Jardin des plantes de Coutances was created during the Second Empire between 1852 and 1855, thanks to a bequest from the Quesnel de La Morinière family. The gardens offer you a beautiful blend of French symmetry, English-style groves, and Italianate terraces. A collection of rare trees, patterned floral beds, and a maze combine to make this the perfect place to stroll and get away from the bustle of travel. Beautiful flower beds and not a weed in sight. These are the most colourful gardens we have ever visited. Free entry; lots of seats dotted around; such colourful planting; set pieces like the large.... more

At 74 and a lover of Gardens and Parks, Coutances Jardin must rank amongst my all time favourites. So delightfully intimate and imaginative, the garden designers take a theme each year and create amazing storyboards from flower beds.... A must visit (the town and Cathedral are lovely too)

Late September and the gardens were still a riot of colour. If only our own garden could exhibit such beautiful displays. We spent about an hour here in the peace and solitude. Lovely place.
