Popularly known as “Chateau de Cognac”, Chateau Royal de Cognac is a French cognac manufacturing house established at the end of the eighteenth century. Jean-Baptiste Antoine Otard founded the company and the firm has remained within the family since the beginning. It still lies in the Chateau des Valois, its birthplace. The cellars of Château de Cognac have 3 meter (10 feet) thick walls and an extremely high level of humidity resulting from the proximity of the Charente River. This environment plays a determinant role in the maturity of the different brandies offered by the company. France welcomes you to a relaxing tour and tasting of one of its best. • We went on the English tour and if was really interesting and brought alive by our guide called Elizabeth (she was French and had spent a good amount of her life in England so could articulate the details brilliantly). She had a thorough detailed knowledge of the castle, cognac, history and the region which put into perspective exactly what we were looking at. This is a tour for the whole family. The tasting at the end was good. We bought the entry level Sampling and that was perfect for us. If you are English and interested in Cognac make sure you get this guide as she brought it alive for us (our family is 20, 18 year old daughters and 14, 11 year old sons). Good job
  • Great experience! Exceptionally interesting tour through the castle with tasting afterwards. The guide lady gave us a lot of information about the history of the cognac and the production. You can finish your tour buying some cognac in the boutique. Thank you!
