Located in the Château de Caen, covers the history of the region--from the early cave dwellers to the Vikings to the 20th century. You can examine 80,000 objects that trace the physical and cultural evolution of Normandy. Items include weapons, jewelry, and objects of daily life that are in context, as well as the masterpieces of blacksmiths, potters, and candle makers. The museum opened in 1963, and in 1970 it merged with the local museum of fine arts, increasing its collections. In addition to the archeological and anthropological exhibits, it also houses permanent and temporary art shows. • We would highly recommend visiting this museum and suggest leaving time to also visit the area surrounding the museum. What an experience! Very reasonable fee to go inside. The history that is preserved here is easily viewed and is stunning.
  • Normally I don't visit on site museums but I decided to visit this one and was not disappointed . There was lots to see and also much more than simple art. Lots to discover about the history of Normandy and William the Conqueror in particular.
