The Beaumont Hamel British Cemetery is a cemetery located in the Somme region of France commemorating British and Commonwealth soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Somme in World War I. The cemetery contains mainly those who died on 1 July 1916 during the first Allied attack on the village of Beaumont-Hamel and in subsequent operations in the area until February 1917.

  • Small, but fitting and well manicured cemetery. It's just in front of where the British lines were and the top of the trench marking the sunken lane is visible, so this cemetery is located in no mans....  more

  • After finding out the history to this place it totally moved me. If you get a chance look up The Sunken Lane which is right by this cemetery. The poor soldiers that now lie here were in that lane...

  • Amazing Experience. Such a sad sad story regarding the brave boys of the now Royal Newfoundland Regiment. This site is preserved to the way it was on July 1 1916 save for the overgrowth. Not many sites left to see that have the real trench that were fought in and massive exploded mine holes. I really felt something here. Veterans Affairs Canada has a crack staff of passionate young Canadians working here to walk you thru the experience. EVERY Newfoundlander must visit this site at some point in there life.
  • We paid homage here to the men of the Newfoundland Regt. It was heart breaking to know of 768 Officers, NCOs and other ranks who went over in the third wave, only 63 answered roll call the following morning. Lest we forget
