The old world charm of France is reinstated and rekindled whenever one thinks of Avignon Les Halles, the largest marketplace there. It has served as a hangout hub for the residents of the historic commune of Avignon. Their reputation has been established by authors such as Peter Mayle or Jean Viard . The northern facade of 6 ha (6,458 square ft.) is covered with a green wall designed by Patrick Blanc. Its authenticity makes it a major tourist attraction. It is better known as the city of the popes. The chief commodities traded here are bread, cheese, fruits, vegetables, poultry, baked goods, deli, olives, shells, flowers, and organic and exotic products. Citizens are usually butchers, fishmongers, creamer, caterer or cellar. Use Inspirock's suggestions to plan your Avignon trip and find the best activities and attractions for your vacation.

  • Don’t accept breakfast at your hotel. Don’t buy lunch at inferior restaurants. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to sample baguettes, croissants, cakes, cheeses, sausages, patées, fruit, chocolate...

  • The food options here are amazing. It was a fun place to walk around, lots of choices to eat and fun to shop for later.

  • Really awesome market. It’s well organized. Come here on a weekend to feel the town enjoying the market or come on a weekday if you want less crowds. You can order food from multiple places and eat them at once from one spot.
  • An indoor market with a good selection of different foods to purchase. Some of the vendors have space for you to sit and consume your purchases, otherwise you can take them away. I arrived just after 12pm, and it was pretty quiet by then. I would definitely like to go back earlier in the morning, when I can imagine it would be extremely busy and full of life.
