Tours et Remparts d'Aigues-Mortes
Well-preserved medieval city walls, including Tours et Remparts d'Aigues-Mortes, surround this small French town. The Tower of Constance is one of the most famous examples of 13th-century Western European military architecture in the marshlands. It was designed to provide warning signals in case of invading fleets and to offer a spiritual headquarters for clergy. Look for the ground-floor guardroom with protective portcullis, a cellar with a pantry and ammunition storage, and dungeons. The structure also includes the Knight's Hall. Take in the views of the region from the terrace. The ramparts stretch for a distance of 1,650 m (138 ft). For travelers who use our international travel planner, Aigues-Mortes holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Tours et Remparts d'Aigues-Mortes and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Would recommend visiting the tower and then walking the ramparts. Very reasonable entrance fee and well worth it.

Nice city encircled by a wall built in the 1300s. You can visit the dungeons and walk around the wall. It has a nice view over the village and over the outside: you can see the pink saline water, the salt piles, the Rône, and a lot more! There are plenty of videos and animations all along the wall that explain the history. These videos/animations are in french and have English and German subtitles which I found very good. France usually only shows everything in french. Tip: do not visit during weekends because it gets very full and you should buy your tickets online because there is a big slow queue at the ticket shop.

Such a beautiful city and such a big and great history! Go around the city on top of the towers and walls then wander around in the old city between bars, shops and art galleries
