Walk among the charming turf-roofed cottages at Tinganes, the cradle of Viking parliamentary democracy. Around 900 CE, the first Viking parliament met here on the flat rocky promontory in between harbors. To this day, the building on the farthest point of the jetty serves as seat of the Faroese government. The tiny main street is lined by 17th-century houses built from a combination of timber and red-painted stone. The guards will provide some historical information if you ask them.
