Overlooking Stanley Harbour, Battle Memorial serves as a reminder of the Battle of the Falkland Islands. British forces destroyed German invaders to prevent the capture of this colony in 1914. An annual ceremony is held here every December 8 in remembrance of this fierce battle. An information plaque describes in detail the clash between two powerful enemies. Our guide drove us by here and as he did, he pointed out several bullet holes in parts of the memorial. As we were strolling the town later on, we were better able to see the holes. Quite eerie. more »
