Trip Planner: South America / Colombia / Bolivar Department / Cartagena District / Cartagena / Torre del Reloj
See one of the best-known architectural symbols of the city and the main gateway to the old town at Torre del Reloj. The 30 m (98 ft) tower--part of the city walls guarding the inner section of old houses and churches from the sea--was originally built in the 17th century and restored in the 19th century. A statue of Pedro de Heredia, the city's founder, dominates a square full of restaurants, shops, and street vendors. In the past, slave traders would pass under the tower; today, herds of tourists cluster on the site. Browse the market with handicrafts and old books, or, if interested, catch a horse-drawn carriage ride from here. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Cartagena trip simple and quick.

“La Torre del Reloj” is the entrance to the walled city and it is an emblematic point of reference in Cartagena, right outside in the evening gathers lots of people to eat street food or just hanging.... more »
Beautiful monument. The area is filled with life. There are a lot of vendors, craft makers, local people that make the experience amazing. This is original architecture that has been restored and taken care of by the city of Cartagena. There is a lot of music around and shows and dances from the local folklore.
Nice yellow building. When lost, I always looked for this clock tower to find the main plaza. The plaza is full of action at night. Only drawback were the many ladies of the night roaming around for work. But, still a super fun place. I enjoyed it so much that I've been back to visit many times. Highly recommend.
