Very nice hike ... significant climb to the lake after the falls, so make sure you're in shape! Gorgeous display of wildflowers during our visit in mid-June.

This hike is a challenge if you are not in good shape, but worth doing as the lake is gorgeous. The falls are also beautiful.

Reaching the Lower Bertha Falls, which marks halfway to the lake, was somewhat of an easy feat compared to the remaining arduous hike that significantly increased in steepness. Be prepared for multiple switchbacks with minimal shady protection provided by the dead trees that burnt down a few years back. Wildlife can be found throughout the hike, including bald eagles, chipmunks, deers, and more. The lake itself is a large cerulean body of water with a mountainous view surrounding it and offers many excellent areas for backcountry camping. A roughly 4 km trail loops around the lake upon arriving, and hikers may also choose to continue their trip towards the Canada-US border (around 13 km) from the lake if desired.

It's a tough 5.4km climb when you pass the half-way point but it's worth it. You'll see the Upper Bertha Falls from a distance to your right and you'll know you're nearing the lake. The beautiful blue-green lake set in between mountains was the reward for the climb. Dip in the crisp cold water when you get here...water is chilly even in the summer. It's a pristine place. Trees here were not touched by the 2017 fire. You can even do backcountry camping up here.
