Create an itinerary including Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies
Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies tells the stories of the mountain town, the indigenous people of the area, and the resilient pioneers who built a life among the Canadian Rockies. The museum boasts various exhibits including photographs, films, audio recordings, maps, out-of-print publications, and newspapers dating from the early 1800s to the present day. Peter and Catharine Whyte, founders of the museum, started the collection by donating the artifacts they and their friends gathered. The museum's fine art collection features a surprising number of women artists and naturalists. Take a leaflet for a self-guided tour. Visit the cabins of notable residents at the complex, known as the heritage homes. See the photographs of a pioneer photographer of the Canadian Rockies, Byron Harmon, and sit in an old helicopter and a 1920s automobile. • This museum is really good, considering it’s location in a small town. There are lots of galleries and exhibitions to see here. The Whyte family, Banff history, paintings and some contemporary art made by local artists. For a $10 fee, I think it’s worth it. The gallery have been well kept and most of the artifacts, paintings and rare items are nicely preserved. This is a good additional activity in Banff if you’re not into Skiing or hiking. We went on Saturday noon and it was just me and my partner the whole time.
  • At 10 per person free for military. It was a eye opening experience. Amazing works of art and great historical artifacts. A must see in Banff..
