Cave and Basin National Historic Site
The discovery of the thermal mineral springs of Cave and Basin National Historic Site in 1883 was a catalyst for establishing Canada's first national park. Today, you can no longer swim in the hot springs, but you can visit the historic site and view displays about the history of Canada's national parks. Admire the cave surrounded by scenic hiking trails and boasting indoor and outdoor natural pools filled with striking azure waters. Make Cave and Basin National Historic Site a centerpiece of your Banff National Park vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Banff National Park trip planner.

An informative place to spend some time and relax. Similar to a museum but have more things to do here. Staffs were helpful and patient to explain things. Loved the ambiance and the way they have maintained the place. Smell of sulphur reminds me of chemistry lab at school. Plan to go there in the morning as parking lots get filling in very quick. Overall great experience.

Not too sure why all the so-so reviews? Definitely worth seeing for a stop on the way to the Banff Gondola for about 1-2 hours. Great for kids and informative. Even if you only check out the cave (forewarned sulfur smells) and walk the exhibits. Make sure to check out the views from the second floor.
