Banff Upper Hot Springs
Banff Upper Hot Springs are commercially developed hot springs located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, near the Banff townsite. Discovered in 1883, the hot pool is outdoors and while in the pool, visitors can look across the valley to Mount Rundle. It is located at 1,585 metres (5,200 ft) of elevation, which makes it the highest hot spring in Canada.Discover how to plan a Banff National Park trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.
The Upper Hot Springs are one of nine naturally occurring hot springs in the Banff area. The hot spring water flows naturally through a big crack in the rock called the Sulphur Mountain Thrust Fault. The source of the water is located at higher elevations on either Sulphur Mountain or Mount Rundle. The springs are created by water passing through cracks in the mountain from Mount Rundle and Sulphur Mountain. As the water flows down the mountain it picks up heat and minerals. The flow rates fluctuates seasonally depending on when the snow melts. In the spring the water flows at over 900 litres per minute, which is the highest flow rate of the year. Highest water flows are in the spring and are lowest during the winter. Since the early 2000s, flow to the Upper Hot Springs has stopped for several months of the winter. During these times, municipal water is substituted for the recreational pools. Water temperature is kept at approximately 38 °C (100 °F), which is the hottest of the springs in the Banff area.
The Banff Springs snail is absent from the Upper Hot Springs region.

If you check it on google you can see when the busy times is. At the holidays it probably busier. Maybe morning time better to check the scenery than night time. Price not too bad bring your own...

Very very disappointed. Just one big heated pool. Nothing special at all. Staff were nice. If you have been skiing or boarding then the views are no different. Soo many people crammed into the pool...

A decent hot springs in Banff. The hot pool is a good size but does get crowded quickly. The staff are friendly and helpful. The price of admission is very fair. There is only one hot pool, no other pools or amenities. This place is missing a cold pool or chilling tub to temperature shock our bodies. The change rooms have a small shower area that gets crowded easily and is the only way from the hot pool to the lockers so everyone gets sprayed as they try to get by. There is a cafe and gift shop here so that is a nice addition.

This was an extremely last minute decision for us to do since we were already up here. We just finished hiking up Sulphur and decided it would be a good stop before going back into town. We did not buy anything prior, so we walked in and purchased 2 tickets (CAD$10 per person) + 2 towels (CAD$2 per person). Tickets include a locker (1x time use only). The pool was nice although busy. There were shelves to leave our towels/phones. Outdoor showers flank the pool can provide cool relief between hot dips. Overall we had an enjoyable time! If you’re already up by the gondola, it is a relaxing stop.
