Create an itinerary including Baphuon Temple
Explore the fragile remains of Baphuon Temple, a three-tiered "temple mountain" of the once great Khmer Empire. The 11th-century structure represented Mt. Meru, home of the Hindu gods; for centuries it remained in disrepair until French-led archaeologists initiated a painstaking restoration, completed in 2011. Today, you can roam around five levels of the temple, which once housed libraries, sandstone galleries, many Buddha images, and a central sanctuary. Once you reach the summit via steep timber steps, you can enjoy the picturesque panoramic view of the entire complex and skyscraping trees. Bring hats, water, and good shoes, especially during hot and humid days, to endure all the climbing. • Located right next to the Bayon Temple this huge pyramidal structure, which is actually much older than Bayon, gets a lot less attention though I think its actually more fascinating and better preserved. You can climb the temple and walk around it, and as good as the view is from the summit, I found wandering the narrow, vaulted corridors much more satisfyingly. The bridge that leads to the temple is also fascinating from the structural standpoint since its a post and lintel construction. Very highly recommended.
  • An ancient pyramid shaped temple from the Khmer Empire. It's such a beautiful architecture. Visiting the Angkor temples, you can't miss Baphuon temple! It is good to climb up to the top and look around 😊. The higher, the better! From the behind, there is a Buddha's statue carved at the wall behind the temple. Try looking in detail and you will see.
