Marvel at snow-clad rugged mountain peaks surrounding you at Chele La Pass, one of the highest observation decks in Bhutan and the highest one you can reach by a motor vehicle. Standing at 3,988 m (13,084 ft), the highest motorway in the country offers spectacular views of mountains and valleys with yaks grazing in the distance. Observe a thick forest of poles with fluttering prayer flags next to the road, which locals put up to scare demons. The two-hour ride from Paro runs through thick forests, passing scenic waterfalls, rivers, and rare flowers. Bring some warm clothes. • I loved coming here and just taking in the beautiful views. We came here 1st thing in the morning, and there was not another tourist in sight, which made the experience even more relaxing.

  • Highest motor-able pass in Bhutan! Great experience. Had nicely prepared tea by a mobile tea-coffee shop!
  • The Chele La pass at 3988 m; is the highest motorable road in Bhutan. At a distance of around 30 km from Paro it takes around a hour and a half to reach. The last 10-12 kms are quite rough; although the scenery that awaits keeps you going. Once there; you can trek to the highest point. The view of the Paro and Haa valley is awesome. And the view of the Jomolhari mountain is breathtaking. A must see when in Bhutan.
