Housed inside the Zonnebeke mansion, Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 pays homage to the half million people who fell in battle on this site in 1917. View the exhibits in the museum showcasing material findings from the Battle of Passchendaele, including uniforms, supplies, and weapons. Take a walk through the recreated trenches and shelter, and discover the personal stories of the men who fought there. There is also an exhibit on the history leading up to the battle and the battle's consequences. When you stand on the quiet battlefield, remember that it is the site of one of the greatest number of losses during World War I. This tragedy is commemorated with a work of art by Helen Pollock made of the clay from the battlefield and displayed in the museum. • Very good museum and well laid out. Even a walk around the grounds is worth the trek. There is also replica's of German and English trenches.

  • Superb museum. So well laid out, taking you through the history, then the artefacts, then a replica of both British and German trenches before ending with an area to reflect on the human cost.

  • What a fantastic museum - we were blown away by it. The section where they had recreated the dugouts and trenches was amazing - really brought it to life for our 14yo who is studying the period at school. The audio tour is highly recommended - absolutely brings the displays to life and full of information. The grounds the museum is set in are beautiful too - a great ace for a stroll. Easy parking and a fantastic place to visit.
  • Excellent. One of the best museums that I have had the pleasure to visit in recent years and a 'must-see' if you're visiting Ypres and Passchendaele. Interesting and informative, there's plenty to see, to hold your interest, to invoke thought & to help you imagine and understand the hardship and horror of the Great War. I'd recommend allowing 3 to 4 hours to visit the museum, to walk around the memorial and to simply reflect. I really enjoyed our visit and would like to return. The old chateau, rebuilt in the 1920s, is a fitting place for the museum. It's a shame that the cafĂ© was closed but that didn't detract from our visit. It really is very good and I'd gave to say that it is better than the 'In Flanders Field' museum in nearby Ypres. The audio tour guide is very useful & is included within the entry price.
