  • History was made here in 1917 when Australian troops at great costs captured the forest during the third battle of Ypres also known as the battle of Passchendaele. Several german bunkers can be found in the forest which is a great place for a walk.
  • Very poignant memorial at Polygon wood and the associated ANZAC monument. Built on a huge Butte at the end of an old rifle range, the site was used as a hospital and first aid station during world war 1. A walk through the woods reveals multiple German bunkers and reinforcements and gives an insight into the challenge the allied troops faced. Polygon wood cemetery to the side also well worth a visit. Ample off road parking available at the attached car park.
