Ramparts Cemetery
Assigned to the United Kingdom by King Albert I of Belgium, Ramparts Cemetery began during World War I as a burial ground for fallen soldiers. Look over the cemetery to see white gravestones resting quietly among manicured grasses and trees. Almost all of the identities of the fallen are known, with the exception of 10 graves that hold the remains of unknown soldiers. A notable set of graves are those of six Australian soldiers who were killed by the same shell. Take your time reading the names and paying tribute to the troops who lost their lives. Using our world travel planner, Ieper (Ypres) attractions like Ramparts Cemetery can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Just up from where we stayed a few years ago, it was very peaceful and quite, it was a pleasure walking round and reading all the different regiments in here.

If ever there was a fitting tribute to those from foreign lands who gave their lives in freedom , this has to be it. Beautifully animated gardens.

Such a beautiful memorial to the brave young men of Flanders fields who made the ultimate sacrifice. Well worth visiting if taking in the Menin Gate.

A small and moving First World War cemetery, beautifully situated on the riverbanks and accessible via a pleasant walk on the town ramparts. Quiet and peaceful, very moving.
