This is an interesting place by the canal which was continuously fought over, with concrete shelters and a memorial to John McCrea who wrote the enduring poem about the fallen in Flanders.

The site and remains of the dugouts, dug into the bank of the nearby canal. It was regularly shelled by the Germans, was originally constructed of sand bags and timber but was later strengthened...
