Create an itinerary including Red Star Line Museum
Sharing the story of immigrants and crew, Red Star Line Museum reveals that the Red Star passenger boats were more than just a line of pleasure ships. The museum documents the rise of the ocean liner and the Red Star company, beginning with its founder Clement Griscom. However, the focus is on the many people that left Antwerp's port headed for New York City. Before the museum opened its doors, a team of researchers tracked the families of almost two million passengers and collected their stories, all of which are showcased in the exhibits. On your visit you'll journey with the immigrants escaping the Nazi occupation of Warsaw, as well as get a taste of traveling in style with famous passengers like Albert Einstein. Only 90 people are allowed into the exhibits every 30 minutes, so there may be a wait on your arrival. Advanced reservations are recommended. Red Star Line Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

  • The museum has excellent information and videos relating to immigration from Europe. The material is informative and easy to follow. The videos are especially engaging. And the staff is excellent.

  • Honestly, I can’t give a full review. I arrived in the half-hour before the museum closed and couldn’t get any tickets to the paid exhibition. But there’s a free lift ride up to the top of the giant ship hull. I could look out into the horizon, much like MAS. This experience is complimented with ground arrows pointing towards different large cities.
  • Great museum and very informative. It’s a shame that this historical building was basically stripped down and modernized on the interior. I suggest adding replicas of things that existed there before, especially on the first floor where it goes through the history of immigration. Seems like a filler room like they didn’t know what to do with the space. Also it was kind of sad seeing the pictures of the hallway leading to the medical examination room, and comparing to how it is now, blocked up with walls for the exhibit. It would be better to try and be historically accurate to the layout of the building, instead of closing rooms off. Also would have been cool if instead of drawing lines on the ground, they had rebuilt the shower and changing room areas for people to see, and maybe add cool information inside the stalls. Also, at the end of the exhibit, it would be cool to have an interactive experience where you can look up a family member’s name that you know immigrated to North America, and see if their name shows up on any former passenger lists. I assume these names are on file somewhere? Washington DC does something similar where you can look up relatives that fought in WW2. Really added to the experience.
