A major landmark, St Paul's Cathedral is located near the new public heart of the city, the Federation Square. Built in the revival of the style known as Gothic Transitional, the cathedral was designed by the distinguished architect William Butterfield, who was known for his work on churches. The foundation stone was laid in 1880 on the spot where the first public Christian service was held several decades before. Unusual among the city's notable 19th century buildings, this cathedral was not made from bluestone, the dominant building material in the region. Instead, it was constructed from sandstone, which gives it an unusual yellow-brown coloring. Stop by this historic place of worship to attend one of many daily masses and hear its well-known choir. Beautiful architecture. On entering, that quiet sense of peace enfolds you and you can't help but feel a little closer to our maker. Well worth the visit. Entry is free, but you may make a donation if you wish. There is also a small gift shop on sites.

This is a wonderful place to worship. I enjoy the architecture and the peace it brings. The spinning globe on display for a limited time brought modern to the classic scene was an interesting fusion. As I wrote this review, I sense God is saying the earth is my foot stool, as I recall watching it spin.
